Life FM 100.1 is a Christian community radio station broadcasting on 100.1 MHz, located in the central tableland s of NSW, Australia.
Life FM 100.1 is owned and operated by Bathurst Christian Broadcasters Incorporated (BCB), an inter-denominational charitable organization based in Bathurst. Life FM has the official call sign 2BCB but prefers the identity Life FM.
BCB was formed in 1993 to apply for a community broadcasting license. Test broadcasts commenced in 1994, as Radio Rhema (the spoken word of God). The test transmissions continued until 16th of June 1999 when BCB was awarded a permanent license. Full time broadcasting as Rhema FM commenced on the 1st July 1999.
On the 1st January 2000, Rhema FM changed it's name to Life FM 100.1, 'Spirit of the West', in order to have a name that was positive and would not date, and to which our listeners would relate.
Life FM 100.1 is truly the station of the new millennium
Our Vision
Our Vision is to carry the message of the love of Jesus to every ear in the central west.
We outreach to the people who may not go to a church, and have possibly never heard the Gospel. In today's media driven society, this is not an easy task. We have to compete with a large number of radio stations for an audience. We are not a church; we cannot replace a church. Our role is to help people to think about Christ.
The Vital Statistics
Our studios are located in the Bathurst CBD.
Our transmitter is located at Mt Ovens near Yetholme, at the eastern boundary of our license area. We have co-sited with 2KY Racing Radio, and use their antenna and tower installation. Our transmission equipment was purchased with funds raised by our members, gifts and loans from our supporters.
For the tech-heads, our output power is 10Kw ERP.
Life FM 100.1 serves the region of Bathurst and the broader central tablelands community. Our footprint at full power extends 100 Km, and so Life FM 100.1 is also heard in Lithgow, Katoomba, Mudgee, Cowra, Taralga, Oberon and Orange. By 2002, we had gained 7% of local radio listeners. The 2008 McNair Ingenuity survey found that a staggering 57% of radio listeners listen to a community station at some point during the month. Our own 2009 survey suggests 14% of Bathurst radio listenership prefer Life FM 100.1
